Doesn't Take Much and That's Messed Up
Dear Marissa,
We’re not good friends, which is something I say not to slight or offend you, but is the simple truth. For a long time I believed we were going to be, though, and I looked forward to that. You and Ed are both wonderful people, full of warmth and humor and wit and wisdom. It could have gone without saying, but from the moment I met you, unknowing of the connections you had to my life, I have liked you and found great pleasure in your acquaintance.
Our lives are going to diverge now, and that is the way that things go, and while I’m not particularly sorry that this is the way of things, I am rather wistful that I will no longer know you and Ed in the same way. I recall how nice you were to a lonely young man whom you had no reason to be very nice to at a wedding, and I thank you, for that kindness and the many more which followed. I’m certain that you will have a wonderful wedding, and a splendid marriage, and I plan on bothering Rich for all the details. I wish you all of the luck in the world, which would be no more than you deserve.
Have an amazing life dear.
Fondly,
